Common Core Courses Empty Common Core Courses

This topic will examine the types of courses that we will provide under the common core standards as well as a rationale for their inclusion.

Common Core Courses Empty Re: Common Core Courses

During a recent common core conference that I attended, I heard that schools will be required to meet all the higher math standards. Will there be any use to having business math or consumer math except as elective credits?

Also, members from my site are concerned that students will not be prepared to access the higher math standards (high school). Some members have stated that we might add additional content to the first year math course, but I imagine this would violate one of the key shifts of common core implementation (focus, coherence and rigor). The specific shift is "focus" which implies that we must focus where the standards focus and not add to much more to them. In light of this, I on behalf of our charter site would like to recommend that we undertake the development of a 7th/8th grade common core course, which addresses those prerequisite standards that will make common core learning more accessible.

From the email sent by Katie it is clear that some school sites will not be so quick to adopt the integrated pathway due to surrounding district considerations. Will we then start with the traditional pathway the process of breaking each of the traditional courses into ten distinct modules? Much of that discussion can take place within a forum (this forum) and via email before our next meeting.

I just read an email from Mrs. Haddad that says some sites have expressed concerns that they do not have sufficient time to devote to discussing CC implementation. The effect is that our meetings together have been postponed until June.

In lieu of this it will be our(the CC math team) task to continue our work via this forum.
